Kendra Garret first started cycling when she moved to Greenville in 2002. A runner at heart, she went along as a spectator to a local triathlon to support friends who were participating in it. On the way to the triathlon Kendra swore multi-sport events weren’t for her. However, on the way home she couldn’t wait to start training for one! That same weekend Kendra hit up her local bike shop and has been an active cyclist and triathlete ever since. She enjoyed riding in the David Sutton Memorial Cross State tour with the Greenville Spinners in 2007 & 2008 and is proud to say she completed her first Half-Ironman distance triathlon at the SC Half in 2009.
While cycling provides a tremendous amount of physical and physiological benefits, Kendra finds the true reason she cycles goes beyond the physical. She enjoys the satisfaction that comes from setting goals and accomplishing them; the confidence that comes from completing a challenge that feels near impossible; the ability to connect with nature; the camaraderie that comes from cycling alongside women with common interests and values. This year, her goals include becoming more technically skilled as a cyclist and completing many of the local century rides and medium to long distance triathlons.
