On August 15th, 2009, GHS team member Kristen Weinacker conquered Mt. Washington in New Hampshire during the annual Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb. Mt. Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States, and is known for its very erratic weather. The highest surface wind-speed ever recorded in the World has been recorded on this very peak at 231mph. The uphill climb averages 12% over the course of 7.6 miles, and has extensions of 18% with a final grudge of 22% at the finish. Kristen placed 11th overall in the woman’s division, and 2nd in the 20-34yr old category with a time of 1:24:44. ”Definitely the hardest hill-climb I’ve ever done, a very challenging experience. Every second was pure fun and torture. I had a lot of issues with cramping because the weather was exceedingly warm. I hope to re-race the course next year and learn from a few crucial mistakes I made this year. The view at the top was spectacular. I felt like I was on top of the world.”
Congrats Kristen!!
